My Internship Experience!
This summer, I participated in a communications internship! It was with The Edgartown Collection hotels. I not only gained hospitality experience, but also experience with public relations too! My responsibilities included assisting with social media content, helping to promote hotel events such as the "Shop Bop" pop-up that happened this past July, and also communicating with the guests in order to make sure their experience while staying with us was perfect!
I felt that being able to promote the "Shop Bop" event was a very insightful experience. My boss worked with a PR team throughout this process. It was interesting to see all fall into place because of how controversial it was. I felt that this gave me more of an insight to the real world and how business really works. Many of the Martha's Vineyard residents were upset over the pop-up because they felt that especially with the large company "Amazon" paying for all of it, that this would essentially take away from the small businesses on the island that mostly are seasonal. I would be working the front desk and would answer call after call of people being very upset about this pop-up which I would then have to not only discuss with my boss, but with the owners of the hotels too. On the other hand, there were many people happy about this event and who loved it! Right there is a sweatshirt that I customised at the event! Overall, working throughout this event was a very cool experience for me. I gained more insight into event planning, public relations, strong organisation, and also strong guest communication skills too! Partnerships and special events can truly enhance a business like a hotel, and I felt that this event was extremely beneficial to the business just overall too!
Hotel Work Experience!
This summer, I also gained knowledge on not only working with the public, but how to effectively run a business. I helped to manage people's reservations, I checked people in and out, helped with breakfast every morning, and also communicated with the rest of the hotel staff too! It helped me to better understand how to work under stress while still effectively problem-solving. People would call all the time with issues regarding their credit card's, or wanting to change rooms or cancel. I noticed that if I ever had a problem, I would simply text the rest of my team in our group chat and someone would then be able to help me fix the issue which was nice. It involved a ton of collaborative group work and also consistent communication. Without these things all happening, the hotel business would not be running the way that it is supposed to! Being able to help create a positive guest experience with the help of our team's effective communications truly taught me so much new knowledge that I know will follow me down my future career path! Here are some of the photos of the hotels that my team and I took throughout the season for our social media pages too!
My Study Abroad Experience!
I studied abroad in Rome with the CEA Capa program where I was also an ambassador this past spring! I would attend study abroad events at my school where I would answer questions to students who want to go abroad, I would take content for their social media, and I would also complete other important out reaches where I would promote their program and study abroad too! Here are some photos of me abroad and also at one of these events too!
